West Point Gold (WPG.V) is planning to start the next phase of drilling at its flagship Gold Chain project in Arizona later this month. The next drill program will consist of approximately 30,000 meters of drilling, in a combination of RC drilling and core drilling. The drill program will predominantly focus on expanding the Tyro Main and NE Tyro zones at depth and along strike, but additional targets on the extensive land package will also be drill-tested with Black Dyke, Sheep Trail and Bull 8 as main zones.

It’s interesting to see the company also mentioned the Frisco Graben as a drill target in the upcoming drill program. This is a low-sulphidation epithermal gold target measuring 4,000 by 750 meters at the intersection of the northeast extension of the mineralized Tyro Structural Corridor and the northwest trending Frisco mine fault. This creates a highly prospective structural setting for the development of a substantial gold system, but as the target is located relatively deep, we cannot expect immediate drill success (as the holes drilled in 2025, albeit a technical success, did not result in a discovery).

But with 20,000 meters of additional drilling under the belt, and seeing how the gold mineralization at NE Tyro is extending toward and plunging into the footwall of the Frisco Mine fault, West Point will try to follow the mineralization into and beneath the Frisco Graben domain.

Meanwhile, West Point Gold should be getting ready to publish the results of an updated resource on Gold Chain. That resource will incorporate the data from in excess of 20,000 meters of drilling. We expect to see a high grade (in excess of 1 g/t gold) oxide-hosted gold resource with a size that’s sufficient to underpin the current market capitalization of West Point Gold.
