Aztec Minerals (AZT.V) has released the assay results from an additional nine holes that were completed at its Tombstone gold-silver project in Arizona. Two of those holes were drilled in the North Extension area with one hole returning 13.7 meters of 1.5 g/t gold and 23.6 g/t silver (for a 1.93 g/t gold-equivalent), but hole TR26-39 drew more attention thanks to its 88.4 meter thick mineralized interval, starting at just under 11 meters down-hole. The average grade over the entire 88 meters was 1.42 g/t gold and 14.6 g/t silver for a 1.69 g/t AuEq grade, including higher-grade intervals like 6.1 meters of 12.23 g/t gold and 56.3 g/t silver.

Needless to say these first two holes from the Northern Extension are sparking more interest in the project as the location of these holes indicates it confirms the extension and continuity of the Contention Pit mineralization towards the north. Assay results from 11 more holes at the Northern Extension are still pending, and it will be very interesting to see if the company can replicate the recently reported thick layer of mineralization further towards the north.
Aztec Minerals is still planning to complete a maiden resource calculation and extending the mineralization further north should definitely help to increase the tonnage. This will hopefully put the past-producing Tombstone project back on the map again.
