Riverside Resources (RRI.V) has released the assay results from a proof of concept hole that was drilled on the Santa Rosalia Sur exploration target on its Cuarentas project in Mexico’s Sonora state.

The average grade of the encountered mineralized intervals wasn’t great (3.15 meters of 0.36 g/t gold and 1.55 meters containing 0.58 g/t gold), but Riverside’s CEO appears to be very happy with the proof of concept delivered by these results, especially as this is the very first hole drilled at Santa Rosalia Sur. And more interesting than the gold values is the interpretation the vein system appears to be lying above a degassing Laramide porphyry copper-gold center as the hole has intersected pyritic zones. This makes the company believe there may be a feeder system of intermediate sulfidation along the Testerazo fault corridor.

Early days at Santa Rosalia Sur and the main takeaway isn’t the grade nor the thickness of the intervals in the first hole, but the first step towards confirming the exploration theory and perhaps discovering a copper-rich feeder zone. A lot more work needs to be done, but Riverside has never backed away from doing the hard work.
